ps2.jpg I realise that consoles are moving on these days to HD what-not but I’m still somewhat pleased to see that the wonderful PS2 is still punching well above its weight.

According to the latest sales figures from Sony, the PS2 is still outselling the PS3. PS3 sales topped 9.2 million for fiscal 2008 but the PS2 – despite weaker sales – still managed to sell 13.7 million units. This is down by almost 1 million units on fiscal 2007 but still a massive sales achievement.

In software terms, the PS2 is still a goldmine with sales of 154 million units, down almost 40 million on 2007, but still triple those for all the other PlayStation platforms.

Sony’s latest console, the PS3, sold a very respectable 9.2 million units which was a little lower than the ‘revised’ 9.5 million target. Lower production costs and price cuts are helping PS3 hardware sales accelerate, while games shipped hit almost 58 million.

Recently, the PS3 topped 5 million sales in Europe, overtaking the Xbox 360.-Martin Lynch
