Sony Adds HD Tuners To New Bravia Range

We’ve just had Panasonic launching the first TVs with in-built Freesat tuners and now Sony has joined the party by launching a new series with HD tuners on-board.
The good-looking Bravia V4500 series, which comprise 26in, 32in and 37in models, come with an integrated MPEG-4 AVC HD tuner, allowing you to enjoy terrestrial HD programmes, like those from Freeview. Well, in 2009 that is, when Freeview HD launches in some regions but, not across the UK, until 2012. A Freesat tuner might have made these more appealing to UK shoppers wanting free HD channels now.
The LCD TVs are all 720p, capable of a 1360×768 pixel resolution, and use the Bravia Engine 2 picture processing technology. Contrast is rated at 33000:1 and all models support True 24fps [frames per second] video, which means your Blu-ray movies [and others] play at the same speed they were filmed at [most movies we watch play a fraction too fast which can make action sequences seem a little blurred or choppy].
There’s a Picture Frame Mode to make the most of your family snaps from a USB stick or, if you fancy turning your telly into a painting, there are 6 pre-installed galleries of contemporary and classic art to choose from.
Each set has 3 HDMI sockets, a swivel stand and they are coming soon but, no prices yet.-Martin Lynch
